Some Webcomics you may care to enjoy

I've not been keeping up on the wonderful world of webcomics much of late, but I discovered these little beauties recently and think they are all well worthy of a mention in the Big Book of Ur:

Lunar Bistro

Further to my previous post, I really liked this one on Indigo Kelleigh's site, http://www.lunarbistro.com/:

Legends of Zork

Another entry in my ongoing effort to catalog all things Ur-worthy on the world wide web:

I didn't play the game yet, but Art-wise it certainly seems to have a lot going on & I think former ModernTales Alum Jim Zubkavitch (now a long-time part of the UDON team, I believe) who did the above piece & Indigo Kelleigh (you all remember the Circle Weave of course, right?!!) had a hand in some if it. He's got some great stuff going on on his portfolio site: http://www.lunarbistro.com/.

Boardgames Pre-order Coupon

As you may be aware, I've recently been illustrating a bunch of board and card games for Minion Games and we're excited to announce that they'll be coming out next month! 'Those Pesky Humans', 'Nile', 'Sturgeon', and 'Legitimacy' are all on a boat to the US right now. We should have them in hand late July 2010.

I developed the game of 'Legitimacy' from the ground up so it's 100% pure ground Chuck - it features seven hexagonal board tiles and a deck of 68 fully-illustrated cards. I also had a very free hand in creating the art and setting the tone for 'Those Pesky Humans' - it's absolutely packed full of pesky pieces, with over 200 cards, counters, board-tiles and other components. Both these games are guaranteed to appeal to Pewfell fans, both in terms of art and humor.

As a reader of this blog, you're entitled to a 10% off and FREE SHIPPING coupon to use if you pre-order any of these products on the Minion Games website : http://www.MinionGames.com - just enter "PREORDER" at the checkout screen once the item(s) are in your cart.

Minion Games will also be attending Origins next week with a few demo copies to teach people how to play the games. There should be demo people in the board game room but if you can't find any stop by their booth #845!

behind door #1

Good morning and today we find out what's behind door #1.

For those that have followed the web comic in the past, I am at the stage where I usually stopped and restarted. I am happy to say I am beyond that. I have 210 pages into the story and it's only getting stronger.

Also on a side note ISSUE 1 has almost completely sold out. Which is awesome. I am pleased to see that it is at least being looked at. Now if I can do the same to 2,3,4,5 I will be even more excited.

Also Issue 6 is in full production. I will not have it for SDCC since it's release date is sometime in aug.

Well more info to come...
keep creating.

Atland #281 - But Daaaad!

This episode kicks off a 5-page flashback featuring young Barry. (I would do a whole series of one-shots of young Barry if I could. I love writing for the annoying little brat.)

For this flashback sequence, we have the illustrious, Jason Embury handling the coloring chores! I love working with Jason, and I thought it would help differentiate between "real time" and "flashback".

Factoids about #281:

- This episode was the FIRST page I finished for Season 2. The artwork has to be almost a year old. Maybe more. You can kind of tell, I think. Doesn't have the amount of detail I would decide to include later on. This episode was supposed to kick off season 2, but I changed my mind about where the flashback should appear.

- You'll notice the reappearance of one of our favorite lizard mounts, a Blockhead. Love drawing those lovable, drooling juggernauts.

- This is the first time we see the city of Spider's Web in all its glory. In "modern Atland", Spider's Web is empty and decrepit. http://www.realmofatland.com/?p=194 I knew at the time we were going to see it in this sequence, so it was fun "putting it back together". Spider's Web was a much bigger city than what we saw. But the desert has reclaimed most of it. How the city ended up in ruins is a tale for another day.

In TWO weeks, Barry gets his first good ass kicking at the hands of a teenage girl.

page 122

Page 122 update.

Well it is time to head back underground:) I am jazzed to see the story finally breaking free from where i would usually stop.

Issue 6 progress is on a roll - I am about halfway through it, I have added a few things to help clarify some parts in the books as well.

Issue 7 script is almost completed as well. I added a few new parts as well that helped define a few characters a little better.

Maybe soon I will start issue 8:)

Atland #280 - A Living Hell

Obviously, this is a set up for a flashback... Not much to talk about except that I redrew Kitty about 6 times on this page. Three or four on the original art and two or three in Photoshop.

Next week, we begin our flashback sequence featuring young Barry, Verner VonStadt, and his ferocious daughter, Nessa, in the town of Spider's Web. Your first-ever look at Barry's novice lessons in swordplay!

Ironically enough, next week's episode is actually the FIRST episode of season 2 that I ever drew! Also joining us for the flashback is guest colorist extraordinaire, Jason Embury!

Blood Red!

I've been dicking around with overhauling the Blood Red website. It looks more-or-less the same, really, but I nuked the entire contents and started over. I've got oodles and oodles of stuff to post up over the coming months, mostly oldies and recent work but also any new junk I happen to spin up.

The main thing I wanted to accomplish was to really establish this site as a place where I can post anything I want. It's a personal blog as much as anything else. So anything that I find cool, interesting, or important will go up. It will be a strange mix of naked bloodsoaked elven maidens and diatribes about the nature of the universe.

Also, this is where I'll be posting up my print comics for sale. They are coming. In print, no less.

Atland #279 - Last Night

When I first drew the interior of the Brave Minotaur inn, I realized it would be featured prominently in Season 2. So for consistency's sake, I made mental notes about the architecture inside. Later on I made a little pencil sketch of the floorplans of the ground floor and the upstairs inn rooms. Eventually I'll scan those and show you guys.

Astute readers will be able to identify what kind of monster's head is hanging on the wall in panel 1.

Also in this episode, I experimented with letting Kitty's hair down to see how it would look. I decided I didn't really like it. She looks better in pig tails -- so in the next episode, you'll see her tying up her hair in the background while some other characters have a discussion! (sometimes the simple fixes are the best!)

Next week...will Barry come clean about Vanessa Vonstadt? Be there and find out!
