Takin' Out Da' Trash

Just trying to put together something new yet, something vaguely familiar. I guess this would be my version of "working the sketchbook". For some reason, I don't keep a traditional sketchbook . My usual process is to grab a chunk of typing...er...computer paper and just doodle. I liken it to taking out the trash. I just doodle until my mind feels emptied.

I feel like my brain is telling me to wander back into the world of `Tween. I've never really left it because Elf `n Troll takes place within the same geography as `Tween but, I feel like I'm being directed towards the more organic/wackier look and feel of the original series.

We shall see.

Pan-Gea: Mobon page one

New Pan-Gea story...

Ok, I'm fibbing. It's actually an old one that has never seen the light of day. If I recall correctly, I started working on this one right after I did the very first Pan-Gea story "The Tooth". Shortly after that things went in other directions and this tale got buried in the half-finished file. So what you're seeing here is art from around 2003 or so.

I wasn't at all satisfied with the script. It was originally hand-lettered but I'm re-doing the lettering (Mighty Zeo!) so I can essentially re-write the story. Not a big change, really. Just some changes in dialog that alter this from a "part one" kind of tale to a more complete, self-contained story. And a very short one at that.

I do plan to color it so this is more-or-less a work in progress.

Just check the sdcc link and noticed that the only day left, and not for long I might add, is Sunday. All other days are gone.

ELF `n TROLL # 201

Color, Color...Everywhere!

Issue #8 of ELF `n TROLL is now available in vivid technicolor. I've also changed the navigation on the Webcomicsnation version so that you can now read issue to issue. This should make it a lot easier to navigate the archive. I'm hoping to dive into coloring issue #9 and, at some point, catch up with the current updates. Maybe.

I recently watched a DVD of some of these very cool little animated shows that were on the BBC in the 70s. The illustrations are beautiful, and though the animation is very basic (just little paper cut-outs) it is all very atmospheric and effective. If you go to the official website (http://www.dragons-friendly-society.co.uk/noggin/noggin.htm) you can even see a little sample video of it. Shows how much you can do with only a very little. Anyway, I thought y'all might appreciate taking a look at it.

Yowzers, i've been a bit distracted lately, so apologies for not posting or commenting on the mighty works that have been posted here lately. Here's what pewfell's been up to while I was away:

I've jumped back into coloring the b/w issues. I'm hoping to have issue #8 (pages 167-188) all colored this weekend or the next. Please don't quote me.

Summer Blues

While most revel in the dog days of summer, I usually find myself in a creative funk. I'm more of a Fall kind of guy. Once September is well underway and begins to give-way to October, my creative juices begin flowing. They say that Spring is the season of renewal but, for me, it's the Fall.

The summer funk might only be a myth as well. I do a lot of random crap such as writing, doodles, short comics which, for the most part, wind up being pieces in something much grander a few months down the road. So maybe the Summer is, in actuality, my most creative time. Hmmm.

The Doodlin' Disease

I have a sketching disease. I’ve seen every specialist I can find, but to no avail. I doodle with alarming frequency. I fear I’m on a downhill slide. I’m unable to recognize reality from doodality. I find myself nabbing scrap printouts at work and bringing them home so I can sketch on the backsides.

Last night I tried to eat some doodles. It took my wife 2 hours to convince me the action was inappropriate. But later that night I got up and ate them anyway.

Someone help me.

Fluffy Furtado

I have a thing for the Koala. I don't know what it is but, I want one. Just an opportunity to hold one is definitely on my "bucket list" of things to do before I take the dirt nap. This is the one rare occasion where you'll get to see my warm, fluffy side. Soak it in.

I'm anxiously counting the days until the new Hellboy flick. Give me a cool character,cool demons, Guillermo del Toro, a box of popcorn and I'm sold! I've heard the usual pessimistic thoughts and reviews but, really...it's Hellboy! Don't be so serious!

Lastly, a note to the potential news makers: you light the fuse...then you run. It's that simple.
