How cool would that be!? Yet...in the end, it's probably a good thing there is distance between us. I could see CNN being involved on this field trip, for some reason. :)
Not to be a buzzkill, but Robert Rodriguez is merely *producing* this, not directing it. The "cheesecake comic book adventure" portion of Rodriguez's brain is going to be occupied for the forseeable future with "Barbarella" (which is also supposed to star McGowan, I think).
I agree that Rodriguez could probably deliver something loopy and dementedly entertaining if he was directing. As it is, I'm not convinced. The guy they've got directing, Douglas Aarniokoski, is relatively untried, with one of his only credits as a director one of the Highlander sequels. Plus, enough with the "Sin City" look, already. It was cool and innovative at first, now it's just an easy thing for hacks to rip off. Somebody tell Hollywood that comics are usually *colourful*.
You're not a buzzkill in any way dude. I don't expect that this'll be the 2nd coming of Tolkien. I'm looking forward to watching McGowan in chain-mail or whatever their take on it will be. The story, if any, will be a "parking your brain at the door" kind of thing, much like the comic. Likewise, with Barbarella, another one I'm looking forward to; it's all eye candy.
Woohoo! I didn't know about this. Nice choice for the role.
ReplyDeleteIf we didn't all live so far apart I'd suggest we make it the subject of an official Wizards of Ur field trip!
