Sketch Trio

Took a couple of tiny little doodles from post it notes and cranked out these sketches tonight.

There is an elusive look and feel I'm trying to uncover. It brims up from my youth, from memory-enhanced images lining the walls of my mind...old comics, old games, fleeting glimpses of book covers while browsing flea market dustbins...

Sometimes I feel like I'm getting closer, other times I feel like its slipping away.

But its always fun.

  1. I love the girls face in these doodles; it's nicely rendered.

  2. I know exactly what you mean about that elusive feel. That's been my experience too.

I'm often tempted by some flashy new style, but I always come back to that inner vision. I know it's just around the corner...

    Keep it up!

  3. The frustrating part about being an artist is knowing that when you get it right you won't be able to tell.

  4. Man...aint that the truth.
I actually have a name for this phenomenon...I call it, "Artistic Anorexia." I don't see, in my art, what everyone else seems to see. I can't even read my own work. Artistic Anorexia...you look in the mirror and never see what everyone else sees.

  5. Yep, I know what you mean about that elusive feeling too. I always get it from your work, James, and I always admire your ability to catch it in such a simple, easy and effective way. Furtado, you need to come up with a word for that lost, whatever-it-is, elusive , fleeting glimpses of book covers while browsing flea market dustbins, Ur feeling!
