the bean 119

Bean 119
I just got back from the Phoenix Comic Con, which by far is one of the best shows I do all year.

I had a fantastic time, and I so look forward to next year. That show just gets better and better.

Well, here is the new update, for today. Enjoy

Medusa Droid

More Medusa love.

So here in the wild world of West life tools on as it tends to do. The birds are singing, the grass is growing, and I'm contemplating comic books.

Not just comics, but comic books. I've been doing this for at least 7 or 8 months. Contemplating comics as comic books, that is. I guess its a fact of my age and history. I'm going to be 40 this year so naturally my formative years and at least half my adulthood were spent looking at comics on paper that you hold in your hand, not comics on a screen. Both are wonderful venues for the craft, but I've been thinking that having my work in print is pretty important to me.

So more on that later.

Zyn Dweomer #74, #75, #76

Fell a little behind on my coloring, so here are the latest three episodes in black and white.

I've been pumping energy into some different projects so Zyn Dweomer has been going a bit more slowly lately. More on that later...

Atland #278 - I Brought a Friend

Probably in my top 10 favorite episodes that I've ever drawn. This is usually determined by looking at an episode and seeing how much I feel like I could have done a better job...with this episode, I almost don't have that feeling!

I consider myself an adventurous eater. Probably because I do all the cooking in my house -- daily meals and holiday feasts. I've been to Europe and I've always eaten anything that was put in front of me. I may not like it, but I will TRY it.

So, for the record, I have eaten blood sausage. I can tell you that (as with almost anything,) drinking heavily helped it go down easier. It doesn't taste too bad, but the texture is like wet sawdust. I also ate head cheese on vacation this year. But you knew that if you follow these commentaries.

I promised you more Kitty (everyone seems to have fallen in love with her even though she has only appeared once up 'til now) so, here she is. More to come.

Speaking of which...in TWO weeks (new schedule! No episode the last Thursday of the month)...we find out what happened that dark & storm night at the Brave Minotaur Inn.

Tia's place

Imagination comes from all sources and this piece has a special place in my heart as I watched a little girl of mine, color away many years ago. I was never able to get it to print until now. I am excited because this piece has many different meanings for me.

This print will debut at the Phoenix comic con and will go on sale after memorial day weekend with Issue 5 which goes to press today.

Issue 6 update - I am at page 15 pencils and it is flowing well.

Issue 7 update - yes there is an issue 7 update. I started scripting last night. I added a whole new section which fills a whole I think the books created. I am really jazzed with where it is all going.

well more news to come and don't be afraid to say hi! I love to talk:)

Comic Pages? From Me?

Two pages from a comic I'm attempting to work on in my free time, which is rare and far between. I share with you all to drive home the fact that I haven't completely disappeared and to stop Wizard Travis from harassing me about making comics.

Atland #277 - The Outside World

It's a plot mover folks. While not the most visually spectacular episode, it was necessary to get us out of the crypt and back into the above-ground world!

I originally had dialogue for those last two panels...but at the lettering stage I decided to remove it. I like the silence there. Clarke is pondering. Thinking of what his long dead lover would want of him.

Someone mentioned how Clarke is the obvious replacement for Bruce. True enough. But I wanted to differentiate Clarke from Bruce right off the bat by showing his incredible loyalty to his wife. (Don't get me wrong...Bruce was a true friend to his traveling companions, but he had some serious issues when it came to family. he did run out on Sheila & Tad...twice...but at least he tried to redeem himself before his death.)

NEXT WEEK, one of my favorite episodes to date...the boys hit the road and we return to the Brave Minotaur inn, where a surprise is waiting for Barry...

In other news, tomorrow I'll be attending my old college, where, for some reason, I'm being given the 2010 Alumni Award from the Art Deptment. Suit & tie fancy-pants dinner and everything!

mermaid tank and other art

As you can tell, in-between books I go a little nuts on my b/w pieces. I use them to learn and develop my trade. Everyone needs to practice.

Some of my pieces are a little more involved as well. Like the one on the right. I have a salt water tank at home and I wondered what it would be like to keep a mermaid in there. How big, filtration system, etc.

So I set one up. Now personally I would have made the tank a little bigger, I do hate seeing animals in enclosures far too small, yet I did make sure the protein skimmer was there as well as a nice filtration system on the right.

Now before you set up your mermaid tank make sure you have your parents permission and the space needed to take care of them. Cleaning can be a bear at times, but honestly no one likes a dirty tanks.

To see all the other new illustrations - just click the pic or follow the link to more floating islands, pirates and a few other surprises.

Stay creative and keep imagining. More artwork to come.
