Work Work Work

I'm sure many of you are sweating bullets wondering why on earth I haven't updated Zyn Dweomer this week. Fear not, my dear friends. I offer up this tiny slice to prove that there is indeed a page 21 on my screen:

And even more evidence is presented with this handy dandy screenshot:

Work (you know...that thing that pays the bills) is literally killing me this week. Overtime. Even today, sacred and sacrosanct Saturday, has been violated with work's rotten taint. I must go in and handle inventory. Blech.

Anyway, I'll have the new page up this weekend and get back on track for this Wednesday's update.

Upcoming character - found in the mysterious sketchbook of Bill!

Was doing some quick, rough sketching as a break during my nightly work, literally only moments ago from this very post, and created a whole lil' storyline based on this husky barbarian dude to the right, "Kruul." Look for him soon. :-)

Ah, the tales of mystery & wonder that bellow forth from within the hidden, blank-paged depths of the magic tome known only as "The Sketchbook," singing their distant elven songs of goodness upon thine soul like a beacon of newly-minted sunshine shamelessly licking the face of your imagination!

Atland #222 - Demonbreaker

THIS is what Nodd meant when he said only Dwarven metalcraft could control a demon back in episode 205. The Deamonbreaker is sort of the lynchpin -- the magical component -- of dwarven-crafted restraints invented to control a demon...at least that's the idea. I'm pretty sure this is the first time in recorded dwarven history that one's been made.

Hey, remember that masked dwarf? (Anyone remember what epsiodes he was in?) Tying up loose ends as we near the finish line means I get to throw in some fan favorite B-list players. :) I even got to give him a name.

So we're at episode 222...I thought I'd be done telling this final story by now. But we have probably about 20 more to go (give or take...)

Next week, will Barry just let sleeping dwarves lie? Probably not.

Some New Pewfell Covers

Here are some more new Pewfell covers, as I continue my quest to re-work, revise and re-package some of my older material. Right now these are all for eBooks available now here:

But they'll be included in my upcoming color print edition of the combined vols 2&3.

Mill Girl 1 Preview

My Underground Pop Productions website has hit a few glitches so it'll be delayed a bit. With that I thought of the only other place to offer some preview images of Mill Girl should be right here where retro fantasy is the name of the game! Yeah. Ok. So this probably isn't the best place but, I'll share anyway.

Ye Old Disclaimer:
This is unlike anything you've seen from me in the past. I know, you probably never expected to see "historical drama" and my name appearing in the same sentence; I'll be honest...I never did either. This is definitely a departure for me but, it's a project that's been on my plate for a very long time and I'm happy to be finally getting some eyeballs on it. I think that I'm looking at about 10 issues right now to tell this story. Here's a preview of the cover and a few pages.

Ye Old Disclaimer Part 2:
This doesn't mean that this is the end of my love for neurotic elves, pole-dancing ale whores and pot smoking wizards. It's just another side of my brain. Don't worry, I'm sure we'll be back to our regularly scheduled program before long.

This should be available for purchase through Indy Planet shortly.
Check back here for updates.

Play Nice.

A splash of colour

I picked up some colouring tips from my pals Dave McCaig and Nathan Fairbairn. Here's the result.

White Death.

No story here or super secret sneak preview. This is just me playing around with scanning in pencils and playing with styles. Just doodling because I can and sharing well...just because. In the 2nd panel I got all manga-like.

I know I mentioned this not too long ago but, I'm mentioning it again because...I can. I don't know where the attitude is coming from. Maybe because it's snowing outside and I've had enough of the white death for this season.
Anywho...
I'll be at Megacon next Friday the 28th and Saturday March 1st sketching, signing and being a real pain in the ass at the Ka-Blam/ Indy Planet booth. I'll also have all 10 issues of Elf `n Troll for sale as well as premiering my latest project, Mill Girl. So, stop by and say hello.

Play Nice.

Atland #221 - Foul Play

See what happens when you take your eyes off Inky for a minute? --Gone! (He was a spy and a thief, after all.)

This episode was SUPPOSED to be the example for my new video tutorial on coloring. But of course, as soon as I finished recording and tried to save the movie file, the program hiccuped and closed out without saving. So, I'm waiting for another good example to come up so I can try again.

While coloring, I also noticed that I totally screwed up Bron's size as compared to Nodd. Bron should be bigger than that. Oh well. Pretend you didn't notice.

In other news, I'm working on the font that will be used for titles/credits (and probably the website) for Atland Season 2!

Next week...the dwarves' DEMONBREAKER!

Leeloo...Multipass

I have been a busy, busy little camper lately. I managed to finish up the Mill Girl book for Megacon in Orlando as well as working on a website for my self-publishing imprint. I'll have more on that in a day or two. I decided today that I would just doodle something for no reason whatsoever. My subconscious presents to you the lovely Leeloo from one of my favorite movies of all time, The Fifth Element. I'm not sure that you can get a more Moebius inspired film and it doesn't hurt that I have a major "thing" for Milla Jovovich either. The movie Ultraviolet hurts my brain but I'll watch it everytime for a Milla Jovovich fix.

Atland #220 - The Hare, Part 2

I drew this episode sitting next to a window in my office because the power was out right after a snowstorm. No heat in the house either, come to think of it. I totally needed to Google a picture of a rabbit running away and with no power, there was no internet -- so I totally faked the rabbit running away panel.

Next week, Nodd and General Bron finally have it out...

Please don't try this at home. Or if you already have, what's it like?

MEGACON 2009!

I will be appearing at Megacon in Orlando Florida on Saturday, February 28 and Sunday, March 1. I’ll be hanging out at the Ka-Blam booth with Barry and Jenni Gregory where I’ll be pushing the dead tree editions of Elf `n Troll, (all 10 issues will be available) as well as premiering a brand new project which I’m really excited about. If you’re at all familiar with my work…this one will take you completely by surprise. It’s a project that I’ve had sitting on the back-burner for a very long time and I’m excited to finally get some eyeballs on it. So if you’re in the area, stop on by and say hello.

Contest

Contest: There is a quote from a famous movie on the latest page (to the best of my memory). Go to the Zyn Dweomer page and put the name of the movie in the Shoutbox and you win a free digital sketch.

It is entirely possible that I slaughtered the quote but it should be close enough that some smart mofo will get it.

Zyn Dweomer Eighteen

Atland #219 - The Hare, Part 1

Drawing hundreds of footprints isn't much fun. I learned that with this episode.

But I also learned that I like drawing bunnies. Yay! Fuzzy (evil!!!) bunny! I discovered the best way to make a cute bunny look evil is to give it canine features. Throwing a little bit of "wolf" into its features in the last panel seemed to work best.

I decided to put Bruce's tracking skills to good use. (lest we forget he is a outdoorsman/barbarian type.) And there's a little explanation about Horn Heads and even General Bron's race, the Simians. Sometimes it's hard to inform the readers when I have so many characters running around in the middle of a story, but I try to at least make it logical.

Next week, The hare part 2 -- Nodd & the demon Sissyl's REAL plan suddenly isn't a secret...

Pewfell in: A Walk on the Wild Side

I haven't been posting any new Pewfell here for a while, as it's still all old stuff I'm re-running and now it's material that's been colored and on the web for a while. This little story is new though - well, mostly anyway: I took a few odd strips I had that had no real plot or connection and worked with Adam to string them together and turn them into the basis for a new short story to round out Pewfell Volume 1 Redux, Book 3.
